Stainless Steel Worm Gearbox Series

304 stainless steel construction, IP69K high-pressure washdown rating, VITON seals, and NSF H1 food-grade lubricant. Engineered specifically for dairy, meat, beverage, bakery, and pharmaceutical processing environments.

EPSS stainless steel worm gearbox series for food industry

Why Stainless Steel Instead of Painted Aluminium?

In food processing environments with daily caustic washdown, conventional painted aluminium gearboxes fail in two predictable ways. First, the paint coating degrades under repeated exposure to sodium hydroxide, peracetic acid, and chlorinated cleaning agents, creating paint flakes that become a physical contamination hazard. Second, NBR seals swell and crack when exposed to these same chemicals, leading to lubricant leakage into the product zone.

The EPSS stainless steel series eliminates both failure modes. The 304SS housing has no paint to flake. The VITON seals resist the full spectrum of food-industry cleaning chemicals. The result is a worm gearbox that survives in high-care environments where aluminium units need replacing every 12-18 months.

Four frame sizes cover centre distances from 30 mm to 63 mm, with both IEC (metric) and NEMA (imperial) motor flange options. Every unit ships with NSF H1 food-grade lubricant and is rated to IP69K for high-pressure, high-temperature close-range washdown.

What Makes the EPSS Series Different

The following specifications apply across all four EPSS models. Individual model pages do not repeat this information.

304 Stainless Steel Housing

Complete housing, flanges, and feet in AISI 304 stainless steel with electro-polished finish. No paint, no coating — nothing to flake, chip, or contaminate. Inherently resistant to sodium hydroxide, peracetic acid, and chlorinated cleaning agents used in food-industry CIP/COP procedures. Smooth surface profile minimises bacterial harbourage points.

IP69K Washdown Rating

The highest ingress protection rating in industrial use. Withstands 80-100 bar water jets at 80 degrees C from 100-150 mm distance at all angles — the exact conditions used in meat, dairy, and pharmaceutical washdown protocols. No protective covers, bags, or shrouds required during cleaning. Exceeds EN 60529 and DIN 40050 Part 9 requirements.

VITON (FKM) Seals as Standard

Every EPSS unit ships with VITON fluoroelastomer seals — not the NBR seals used as standard on general-purpose gearboxes. VITON resists the full chemical spectrum of food-industry cleaning: NaOH, peracetic acid, quaternary ammonium compounds, chlorine, and hot water. Continuous temperature range: -20 degrees C to +200 degrees C.

20CrMnTi Worm Shaft — Zi Profile

Carburised alloy steel worm shaft with Zi involute globoid tooth profile. The Zi geometry provides a larger contact area than standard ZA/ZN profiles, distributing load across more tooth surface and reducing contact stress. Result: higher load capacity, lower noise, and longer wear life under the same operating conditions.

CuSn12Ni2 Nickel-Tin-Bronze Wheel

A higher-grade bronze alloy than the CuSn10Pb1 used in standard worm gearboxes. The 12% tin and 2% nickel content increases tensile strength from approximately 250 MPa to 310 MPa, while the nickel addition improves corrosion resistance — relevant in food environments where trace lubricant may contact product.

NSF H1 Food-Grade Lubricant

Factory-filled with fully synthetic NSF H1 registered lubricant, compliant with FDA 21 CFR 178.3570 for incidental food contact. Eliminates the risk of non-food-safe lubricant contamination. Additional O-ring on the input flange face provides a secondary moisture barrier at the motor-gearbox interface during washdown.

Food Industry Certifications & Compatibility

HACCP Compatible

304SS construction with no paint contamination risk supports HACCP plan compliance in high-care food zones.

FDA 21 CFR 178

NSF H1 lubricant compliant with FDA regulations for incidental food contact applications.

IP69K / EN 60529

Withstands high-pressure, high-temperature washdown per EN 60529 and DIN 40050 Part 9.
