WPE Double-Stage Worm Reducer Series

Two worm gear sets in a single pre-aligned housing. Ratios from 100:1 to 3,600:1 for ultra-low-speed, high-torque applications. 9 size combinations from 20 kg to 462 kg. FG260 cast iron construction.

When a Single-Stage Ratio Is Not Enough

When your application requires a reduction ratio above 60:1, a single-stage worm reducer cannot deliver it without catastrophic efficiency loss. The WPE double-stage series solves this by pairing two worm gear sets — a high-speed first stage and a low-speed second stage — in a single factory-aligned cast iron housing. The result: ratios from 100:1 to 3,600:1 in a compact, pre-aligned assembly that eliminates the alignment errors, coupling losses, and additional footprint of mounting two separate single-stage gearboxes in series.

Typical applications include dam penstock and sluice gate actuators, large clarifier scraper bridge drives in water treatment, solar tracker slew drives, mining rotary equipment requiring output speeds below 5 RPM, and any industrial drive where the output shaft must rotate at ultra-low speed with high sustained torque.

All WPE models use the same FG260 cast iron housing, 20CrMnTi alloy steel worm shafts, and centrifugally cast bronze worm wheels as the single-stage WPA series. Inter-stage alignment is factory-set with precision shims, eliminating field adjustment.

Max torque values are catalogue maximums. Actual continuous-duty torque depends on ratio, duty cycle, and ambient temperature. For materials, lubrication, and selection methodology shared with the single-stage WPA series, refer to the WPA/WPS Series overview.
